Peace is something worth fighting for.
For centuries, the brightest diplomats have tried to bring peace to the Middle East. They succeed for a moment, and then, another war breaks out. Like the surf, conflict relentlessly pounds our world, our families, and our lives. For a second, everything seems perfect, and then, boom! Another wave crashes on our shore, washing all our hard work away and leaving a wake of hurt feelings, fear, and offense.
He will keep in perfect peace, him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in the Lord.Isaiah 26:3
Perfect peace is never gained through our effort alone. Perfect peace, peace that remains, is won through complete surrender.
Sometimes, you have to fight to lay down your life. Our flesh kicks and screams to stay alive.
We want our own way.
We don’t want to serve that person.
We deserve an apology.
We feel a right to hold a grudge.
Don’t let those thoughts fester. They lie to you and say that if you get your way, you will feel peace. You will not. You will need more and more and more.
The enemy is a devourer. Enough is never enough.
Take my word for it, fight to die so you can live.
I remember when my husband was fighting for his life in the hospital a few years ago. We were not given any notice he was ill and in a moment’s time he could have died. Over and over again, we surrendered our will to God’s plan. In return, we were given peace. His peace sustained us for weeks in that hospital room. And as I continued to give way to peace, the great fear of loss was washed away with the warmth and comfort of God like I never knew; a precious gift bought with the blood of His one and only Son.
When anxiety, fear, and doubt nip at my heels today, I go to war.
The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.2 Corinthians 10:4
Every morning I have choice: Will I let the fear and turmoil dictate my peace? Or will I give God the paintbrush and let him fill in the lines of my life with beauty and joy? Will I lay down my life so I can receive His life? The choice is mine.
If you want peace, you will have to lay down your life, the same way soldiers lay down their lives to protect the peace of their countries. Perfect peace is won through the high price of complete surrender to God and His way.
Do you want an anxiety-free zone in your family? Your life? Your friendships? Your job? Lay down your life. Trust God. Keep your mind on Him. Wave your white flag of surrender.
For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victoryDeut. 20:4
You cannot do it on your own. Raise your white flag and let Him fight your battles.
